Projects
Brikama, The Gambia
Origin is supporting women not only living with HIV but the stigma and social difficulty that brings. We are finding employment solutions and capacity building options for them to retrain and obtain independence. We are also consulting and contributing to the building of a new HIV clinic in which patients can benefit from proper infection control procedures in a clinic that we are helping to achieve increased financial independence from a increasingly dwindling Global Fund.
Bamako, Mali
Origin is working with a local designer, Alain, to create a sustainable seamstress school to take in, train and empower women from difficult backgrounds in the civil war torn north of the country. It will train the women in fabric creation, pattern design, garment production while at the same time, offering them support in finding their feet in the city.
Amhara, Ethiopia
Origin has set up a sanitation social enterprise. Its purpose is to allow local people to run a self-sustaining initiative to build ventilated-improved pit latrines in the remote Simien Mountains. This, alongside a carefully designed education program, is the World Health Organisation approved most efficacious method of targeting this disabling problem for individuals, families and broader communities. It provides safe sanitation to keep children free from repeated diarrhoeal and parasitic illness and all the broader impacts these illnesses have.
